NZ QRPers Group
QRP is operating with reduced transmit power, trying to maximise the distance you can communicate over without resorting to cranking up the power.
GO QRP Nights
The Go QRP Nights (GQN) contest is New Zealand’s only year-long amateur radio contest. Points are earned in each monthly contest, then tallied at the end of the year and winners announced.
GQN is designed to encourage low power operation, and the scoring is designed to reward effort and participation under challenging RF and environmental conditions. Low power operation requires attention to antenna efficiency and operator skill, as well as persistence to pull in those weak signals. And it’s fun! New in 2025 is bonus points and a seperate award for QRPp (1 watt or less) operation.
GQN encourages portable and back-country operation, as well as DX and CW.
GQN uses SSB and CW on the 40 and 80 meter bands. Full contest details are available on the website: https://www.qsl.net/zl3pie/
